The Steve Weston and Trust Scholarship is designed for students from African, American, and Asian countries who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee. Scholarship Requirements:

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

– Hold an Honours degree (2nd class upper level or above) in Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum, Mining Engineering, or Finance. Consideration will also be given to applicants with other academic backgrounds who provide a clear motivation for pursuing the relevant LLM program, along with any relevant legal work experience.
– Have an offer for the September 2023 intake for either the LLM in International Mineral Law and Policy or LLM in International Oil and Gas Law and Policy.
– Meet the English language entry requirements set by the University of Dundee.
– Demonstrate intellectual ability and leadership potential.
– Have a proven track record and the potential to assume influential positions.
– Preferably, be qualified lawyers with post-degree work experience in energy or natural resource development in government, private sector, or academia.
– Commit to completing the degree within 12 months. International students are expected to return to their home country after completing their studies.

Scholarship Duration and Reward:

The scholarship offers three awards, one from the Steve Weston Scholarship fund and two from Trust Scholarships. Each selected candidate will receive:
– Payment of academic tuition fees (fees for 2023-24 to be confirmed)
– 12 monthly stipends for living expenses (£12,600 distributed over 12 monthly payments of £1,050)
– An arrival allowance (£750) and thesis/internship report allowance (£580)

Eligible Countries:

– Africa: Botswana, Congo (Democratic Republic), Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia
– Americas: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago
– Asia: China, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Thailand

Method of Application:

There is no separate application form for the Steve Weston Scholarship. Candidates who have received unconditional admission to the full-time LLM programs in Mineral Law and Policy or International Oil and Gas Law should submit a 500-word Personal Statement and an updated CV via email to Alison Anderson at [email protected]. Note that only candidates with an unconditional offer for the specified programs will be considered.
