Nigerian media personality Shade Ladipo has hit out at self-proclaimed African giant Burna Boy over his explanation for keeping quiet during Nigeria’s 2023 election.
After being criticised for his lack of support, the musician took to Instagram to explain that he could not back any of the candidates, as he did not trust them and did not want to be held responsible if they fail in office.
“I don’t know why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections,” he wrote on his Instagram stories. Personally I don’t have a candidate that I believe in. I’ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life because I don’t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person f**ks up as usual. That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”
However, this explanation did not go down well with many Nigerians, including Ladipo who labeled Burna Boy a cl0wn and an opportunist who takes advantage of Nigerian and African issues just to promote his music.
“Your African ant is a cl0wn. If you are a true pan-Africanist as you claim with your music then you must understand the importance of these elections. Promoting voter participation doesn’t involve supporting any candidate. You are a clown and an opportunist who only uses Nigeria/African issues to promote your music. F*cking fraud with fake dreads”.
