“Why my brother, Femi’s ex-wife divorced him” – Media personality, Yeni Kuti

During a recent conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Yeni Kuti, a well-known media personality and the elder sister of Nigerian singer Femi Kuti, shed light on the reasons behind the singer’s ex-wife, Funke, leaving him.

Yeni disclosed that Funke made the decision to end the marriage due to a “communication breakdown” that had occurred between them.

Yeni mentioned that Funke expressed regret over her choice to divorce the singer. Funke later confessed that if she had possessed the knowledge she has now, she likely would not have ended her marriage with Femi.

“I think the divorce between Femi and Funke was a result of a communication breakdown. Even now, Funke says that if she had known then what she knows now, she probably wouldn’t have left the marriage. So, I believe it was a communication breakdown.”

“You know, our people can be quite malicious. If they see something good, their focus becomes how to bring it down. Many people have been advising her. Just like me, people say, ‘Why are you still dancing for your brother? Go and form your own band.’ Which band do I want to form? Did I ever come to you saying I want to form a band?” Yeni said.

In a recent revelation, Yeni Kuti expressed her stance on infidelity by stating that she would not leave her husband even if he were unfaithful.

Yeni, who tragically lost her husband, Femi Segun, in 2014, shared that her personal choice is to stay with her partner despite any instances of cheating.

She firmly believes that her decision should not be subjected to judgment, as it is a matter of personal choice.

Yeni went on to mention her father, the late legendary Afrobeat singer Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, who had 27 wives.

She highlighted that her mother did not divorce Fela despite his polygamous relationships, drawing inspiration from her parents’ example and affirming her commitment to staying with her partner, regardless of the presence of another woman.
