Bankole Wellington, known as Banky W, wears two hats – he’s not only a musician but also a pastor. In a recent chat with BBC, he explained why he jumped into politics while still being a pastor.

He wanted to show everyone that good-hearted individuals with honest intentions can get involved in politics and make a difference by serving the community.
Talking about the passing of the well-known Afrobeat artist Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, Banky W urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death to uncover the truth.
Shifting gears to recent political events, Banky W weighed in on a judgment from the National Assembly petitions tribunal. The ruling called for a supplementary election in the House of Representatives seat for Eti Osa local government area. He remains optimistic, believing he still has a shot at winning the position, despite coming in second during the 2023 general elections where Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
