UN Women – Empowering Women and Promoting Gender Equality
Back in July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly made a significant move by establishing UN Women, officially known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. This was a crucial step in the UN’s broader reform agenda, aimed at consolidating resources and mandates to achieve a greater impact in promoting gender equality.
Essentially, UN Women brings together the strengths and missions of four separate UN bodies (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW, and UNIFEM) that were all focused on advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
