Popular Nollywood actress and producer, Destiny Etiko, has taken to social media to encourage her counterparts in the Yoruba film industry, as well as their fans, to communicate in English when addressing the wider public.
Being of Igbo heritage herself, she expressed her viewpoint in a video that has been widely shared on social media. Destiny highlighted the prevalent practice among her colleagues of exclusively conversing in their local language, which often creates significant communication obstacles.

The same issue was brought to light by Destiny Etiko when she observed comments and discussions among Yoruba speakers who preferred using their native language instead of ensuring inclusivity for everyone.
In an appealing manner, she encouraged them to acquire the ability to effectively communicate in either English or utilize pidgin, enabling better understanding among a wider audience.
“I just don’t know why whenever you are speaking to Yoruba people, they will always want to speak Yoruba. Ehhhhh I don’t understand even on blogs. You all will be speaking Yoruba like everyone is Yoruba. You guys should try and speak English or broken,” she said.
