Popular Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti’s manager, Ayo Moses has shared the account of the incident when Seun allegedly slapped a policeman on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.
During an exclusive phone interview with Potpourri, Ayo explained that Seun Kuti’s physical altercation with the policeman was a result of provocation from the officer.

In his words;
“On the said day, Seun was driving with his family on the third mainland bridge, when he was suddenly hit from behind, by a police truck being driven by an officer who was reportedly drunk. This act from the officer led Seun’s daughter into a sudden shock, as she was visibly shaken by the hit. So, this made Seun pursue the truck, double-crossed it and forced it to a stop. When the police officer got down from the truck, instead of apologizing, he was arguing with Seun, which provoked him to slap the officer.”
Ayo emphasised the importance of recognising Seun as a fellow human being, emphasising that anyone would have reacted similarly if their family’s safety was at stake. He urged Nigerians to understand this perspective.
Furthermore, Ayo issued a cautionary message to police officers, reminding them that wearing a uniform doesn’t make them invulnerable or above reproach.
“People should realize that men on uniforms also provoke civilians. Immunity is no excuse for impunity,” he added.
According to Ayo, Seun Kuti, who has been moved to the State CID officer in Yaba, would be represented in court by seasoned attorney and human rights campaigner Femi Falana.
