The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has arrested and detained famous Nigerian singer Oladapo Oyebanji, popularly known as D’banj (ICPC).
According to reports, the singer was arrested after ICPC operatives moved on him and compelled him to surrender at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
The kokomaster is accused of fraudulently diverting monies intended for youth empowerment through the N-Power programme into his personal accounts.
The Nigerian government established the N-Power project to solve the issue of youth unemployment and to promote social development.
However, it was claimed that D’banj collaborated with crooked government officials to put “ghost beneficiaries” on the funds’ payroll.
The funds awarded to those beneficiaries have now been traced back to accounts associated to the singer.
According to reports, the ICPC proceeded to arrest D’banj anywhere in Nigeria and abroad after he refused to appear for interrogation despite several invitations, prompting him to appear at the commission’s office on Tuesday.
D’banj was detained after being forced to a lengthy interrogation session upon his arrival.
Officials denied the singer’s request for administrative bail, claiming that if released on free, he could not be trusted to attend his trial.
