Singer, Asa slams Joeboy with N300m copyright infringement notice over his new song; he reacts

Popular Nigerian singer, Bukola Elemide well known as Asa, has slammed her colleague, Joeboy, with a copyright infringement notice over his newly released song, ‘Contour’.

In a letter addressed to Joeboy through her legal representative, The 40-year-old singer claimed he used a musical composition that she created with producer, Tempoe, during a recording session in 2020.

She went on to ask for the sum of N300 million for the infringement and an additional 60% (sixty percent) publishing split on the song.

Asa also ordered him to remove the song from all music streaming platforms within 24 hours, and tender a written apology to her.

The letter reads in part,
“We hereby demand that you immediately remove the Song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter, with a written apology issued to our Client as well as halt any additional infringements of our Composition, including any other infringements.

We also demand that the sum of N300,000,000 (Three Hundred Million Naira) as well as a 60% (sixty percent) publishing split on the Song be assigned to our Client.”

Joeboy took to his instastory and responded to the notice, and dared Asa to do her worst.

He added that people tend to take advantage of him because of his calm personality, but he’s not an easy nut to crack.

He further dared Asa’s legal representative to take legal actions against him because the 24hours notice has elapsed.

“Cos i dey always do love and light you think sey i be soft meat. You said i have 24 hours, it’s been 48hours, do something,” he wrote.
