A video has gone viral showing the moment Nigerian dancer Korra Obidi learned that her application for US citizenship was denied. In the video, Korra is seen opening a letter from the embassy containing the news.
Obidi, a mother of two, had applied for citizenship through naturalization. However, her request was not granted by the embassy.

The Instagram dancer was visibly upset by the rejection and ended the video abruptly to process her emotions.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many people suggesting that Obidi should have maintained a good relationship with her ex-husband, Justin Dean.
The couple went through a messy divorce last year, shortly after she gave birth to their second child in the US. The conflict dragged on for months before their divorce was finalized in November 2022.
In response to Obidi’s citizenship rejection, some netizens have advised women to learn from her mistake and avoid publicly fighting with their Caucasian partners.
While there are conflicting reactions to the video, particularly in relation to her failed marriage, it is currently unclear whether Justin Dean is an American citizen and whether staying with him would have helped her citizenship application.

@tracyokito: “She didn’t know she was supposed to become a citizen first before she did all that drama. Sometimes you have to act dumb to get what you want. Look at our Nigerian guys with their old wives.”
@lateisha_diva: “What were you expecting? You want to become a citizen through marriage, and you’re not with him anymore. The man can’t sign the papers because he must do so before they give you citizenship. Sorry about that.”
@kingofficialfatalist2: “Believe social media at your own risk. This woman is trying to confuse you into talking about something else. She’s trying to redirect your attention. It could be a lie, or it could be true. Don’t believe everything you see on these social media apps.”
@balo_ng: “That’s not true. When your citizenship is denied, you will know it right away before you leave the immigration office, and they may send you a formal letter later. If it is approved, they will let you know, close your file, and send you for your swearing-in right there. So for her to act surprised on social media is just to cause more drama or get more views.”
