A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe, has condemned activist Aisha Yesufu for her perceived disrespectful behavior towards the newly restored national anthem. Yesufu, a renowned activist, refused to sing the national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee,” at an event, choosing to sit while others stood to honor the anthem.

In a video posted on X on Friday, Yesufu, co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls advocacy group, was seen sitting while the national anthem was being recited. She captioned the video, “#NotMyNationalAnthem.”

Reacting on his Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe denounced Yesufu’s behavior as “nonsensical” and warned that her actions may harm her and her family. He wrote, “Aisha Yesufu shows disdain for the National Anthem. Let’s see where her reckless behavior will lead her. She may not realize the harm she’s causing to herself and her family. Continue.”
This development comes after President Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, restoring “Nigeria we hail thee” as the national anthem.”
