Father Oluoma to Yahoo Boys: If You Must Do Fraud, Target Bad Politicians
In a recent sermon, Catholic priest Reverend Father Chinenye Oluoma has condemned the activities of young Nigerians who engage in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”

Oluoma said that if these young people continue down that path, they will not end well. He also said that it would be better if they targeted corrupt politicians instead of innocent people.
“When you pursue wealth at the expense of fellow humans, you are trashing people to get a treasure that will be a trash in your life,” he said. “I don’t understand when people who steal and dupe others get angry when ministers condemn it. Yahoo means a set of people who will just lock themselves in a house, look for somebody who is vulnerable using their computers and dupe the person everything he laboured for.”
Oluoma said that it is not right to steal from people, even if they are wealthy. He said that everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their financial status.
“If Yahoo means tricking people, defrauding them of their hard-earned money, leaving them penniless and they die of heart attack, how do you want to end well?” he asked. “Some people even consider it as a legitimate hustle. How can stealing be a legitimate hustle? If you are that kind of person, you can’t end well.”
Oluoma also warned Yahoo boys that their actions could have negative consequences for their future. He said that if they marry and have children, their children could suffer the consequences of their parents’ actions.
“At least if you want to be a Yahoo, target politicians who are stealing money,” he said. “But you won’t target such people, it is people who worked honestly. At least, target the bad politicians so that on the last day you and God may have conversations on it.”
Oluoma’s comments have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised him for speaking out against internet fraud, while others have criticized him for not offering a more constructive solution.
